Flowers—Lines—Ice

花の雨

Cherry blossom petals were already scattering.  Some fell straight down in  a spectacular blur of pink raindrops.  Others sailed like tiny clouds on the wind.  Eventually, they gathered in puddles at the sidewalk’s edge, drenched in the morning dew.

    • Kris, thank you so much for your recent visit and your many supportive comments. I’m really grateful. I so enjoyed the beautiful spring blossoms you posted today, and especially related to your wish that you could somehow capture the fragrance! I wonder if one day we’ll have the technology for that! Some amazing camera that will be. 🙂

These are all so delicate and fine, Lemony. Rain of Cherry Blossoms. Photographic Haiga. Your picture poems remind me of Basho’s haiku:

    The leafless cherry,
    Old as a toothless woman,
    Blooms in flowers,
    Mindful of its youth.

    March 29, 2012 at 12:19 am

    • Thank you so much, George. I am really honored that you would associate my post with haiga. I also very much enjoyed this haiku of Basho, one I do not recall reading before. What wonderful imagery! Thank you for sharing it with me.

  18. George just nailed it for me! These are charming photos. It’s amazing to me to know they’re already on the ground, while here I’m celebrating the crocuses in bloom.

    • Thank you, Lance. It is surprising that they’re already shedding their leaves. But that’s the way of it, isn’t it… That’s the allure of the cherry blossom, too: its exquisite, heartbreaking, ephemeral beauty.

I love all of them, but definitely my favorite is the third one, the drops there look like they were placed in the perfect position.
