I know I’ve mentioned this before, but when you start looking at dandelions up close, you begin to see (or “imagine,” if you insist) that they have different “personalities.” There are “the divas,” “the eccentrics,” “the introverts,” “the lunatics,” … and on and on. And each one dies in a way reflective of the nature with which it lived. Or so I like to pretend, at least, when I take their portraits.
This one makes me smile. I think it is fairly stubborn. Maybe “head-strong” would be a good description.

I know I went full force on the dandelions several weeks ago, and I have not stopped taking photographs of dandelions since then. In fact, I’m a complete dandelion addict now, if you must know the truth. I can’t stop. I photograph them daily. They’re everywhere, and they all have something to say to me. I have to force myself to look away now to actually reach a destination. Otherwise, I’ll see a patch, go over, and fall in love. I’m fascinated by their life cycle, by their individualities, and, dare I say, their expressiveness. I’ve tried to spare you my obsession, but today, I can’t resist. This little puff was completely naturally illuminated this way. A ray of sunlight was shining “just so” around a dark corner. I could see this little one from a block a way, it was so strangely bright. (I did not use a flash, but I obviously did darken the already obscured ivy background to emphasize the dandelion seed.)
