Surely a cascade of water? But I’m puzzled by the nearly-horizontal, mostly-straight line a quarter of the way up from the lower edge of the frame, and–like the cat who ate some cheese before lying in wait for the mouse–am waiting with baited breath for a further explanation. Maybe a fold in an older negative or print that you’ve scanned? Ah, the possibilities!

A worthy abstraction. Like krikitarts, I see falling water at the left.
This is a reminder (for some of us) of the graininess of film that’s been pushed a lot.
