I never knew that there were currents in mud puddles until I began looking closely at the kind of ice in your pictures. It’s amazing.

One thing I’m learning about focusing on one location, such as the pond, is that I learn a lot of different things by concentrating on that one location for many, many days. Even the same spot in the pond. Lots of interesting things reveal themselves.

Fascinating – the frozen currents look like Hockneys from the 70s (?) – exactly how he expressed ripples on the surface of a swimming pool. The contours are beautiful – it must have been an incredibly rapid freeze. Great shots, Melanie.

🙂 I’m wondering if there isn’t something about this pond in particular. I’m eager to check out some other ponds in Maine to see how they compare. I also think that there might be something to the early freeze and then partial thaw and then rapid re-freeze that adds something special to the structures I’ve found there (this year and last).
